Hector “Coco” Barez and I were fated to meet. We both grew up in Puerto Rico at the same time, and we had a lot of friends, acquaintances and some family connections. But as life has it sometimes we did not meet until I moved to Richmond. Our mutual friend, Alicia Diaz, introduced us. From there we hit it off and we have had a great friendship ever since.

Coco is a spectacular musician. His talents for percussion are legendary from his days with Calle 13 to many more incredible bands his skills have no end.

It was a thrill to photograph Coco. We made A LOT of noise and had a blast. It is a privilege to see some of my work being used in his latest record: El Laberinto del Coco.
